One of my favorite bloggers, Tishalou, celebrated National Heritage Week at her school in January. She had some fantastic lessons and inspired me to do something similar for my schools. The kids have really enjoyed learning about new cultures and new art. I am adding to my bulletin board as we complete the lessons.
Kindergarten – Reading Suki’s Kimono and creating their own kimono designs.
1st Grade – Australian Aboriginal dot paintings.
2nd Grade – studying North American artist, Laurel Burch and creating Fantastical Felines.
3rd Grade – Made cut-paper African masks.
4th Grade – Explored Queens and Pharaohs of Egypt and created Egyptian Royal Portraits.
5th Grade – Learned about Henna and created some hands with henna designs and colorful backgrounds.
I’ll be posting these lessons as we go!
